Backflow Services

 What is Backflow?

Backflow is when polluted or contaminated water reverses direction and flows back toward the source. Backflow is caused by either back-pressure or back-siphonage. Backpressure is when the pressure in the pipes is greater than the pressure coming into the pipes. Back-siphonage is a negative pressure in one of the pipes.

How can Backflow be prevented?

At DiDonato Mechanical, we strive to protect the public health. Our highly trained professionals are qualified to make a detailed assessment of your
home and/or business to determine whether or not the facility is susceptible to backflow and to make the proper recommendations for backflow assemblies.  All businesses are required to have two types of backflow prevention assemblies. External – which protects city water from cross connection on the business’ property. Internal – which protects the customer from a hazardous cross connection. Each backflow assembly should be tested annually to assure proper functionality.

Annual Testing

All cities require annual backflow testing for commercial properties. lDiDonato Mechanical performs annual testing and will contact our customers with a reminder of the upcoming re-certification date to ensure that your property is up to local codes and regulations.

Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)

In 1974, Congress created the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to help protect the health of Americans from contaminants in drinking water and to help prevent contamination of existing groundwater. The act was later amended in 1986 and 1996 and now requires approved backflow prevention assemblies to be installed and maintained at a water service connection where a potential hazard of cross connection is determined to be a threat to the customer’s system.

DiDonato Mechanical Warranty

DiDonato Mechanical offers a 1-year warranty on workmanship and materials on new installations of backflow assemblies
